Raffaele Perego

Raffaele Perego is a research director with the Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologie dell’informazione “A. Faedo”, where he leads the High Performance Computing Lab (HPC Lab, http://hpc.isti.cnr.it). His main research interests are in the area of efficient algorithms and machine learning techniques for the management, analysis, and search of large amounts of data. The focus is addressing problems related to the design, implementation and deployment of scalable information systems that can provide effective answers to complex queries by possibly using a limited amount of computational resources. He published more than 190 papers on these topics in peer-reviewed journals and proceedings of international conferences. He coordinated research projects funded by national agencies and the European Commission.
He won the Best Paper Award at ACM SIGIR 2015, ACM DocEng 2016 and he was a recipient of the Yahoo Faculty Research and Engagement Program (FREP) award in 2014. He chaired ACM SIGIR in 2016 and ECIR in 2021. He serves as senior member in the PCs of the top-tier conferences in his research area (ACM SIGIR, ACM CIKM, ACM WSDM, ECIR, WWW) and in the PhD board of the Italian National PhD program on Artificial Intelligence.
