Research Interests and Publications
See here for my DBLP list of publications (which is never up to date !!!),
otherwise you may look here for my complete list of publications.
My main interest is Data Mining, particularly the extraction of frequent patterns. Anyway, I'm also working on Constrained Pattern Mining, Privacy Preserving Data Mining, Information Retrieval, Multimedia Information Retrieval and Distributed Data Mining. In the following you have a list of my publications, subdivided by topic.
Software
PaNDa. [download]
This is the result of our work on mining patterns, in particular dense rectangles, in noisy binary datasets. This is the implementation of [SAC 10].
DCI-CLOSED. [download]
This is the result of our work on Pattern Mining algorithm for the discovery of closed frequent itemsets, in particular it implements three of our papers ([ICDM 07], [TKDE 06], [SDM 06]) in one comprehensive software specialized for the dense datasets. In fact, it supports both out-of-core and multi-core mining.
ASSOCIATION-RULES. [download]
This software generates association rules with given minimum confidence from a collection of frequent itemsets. Differently from others, it does not need a downward closed collection. It extracts all the possible association rules, without assuming that given a frequent itemset the supports of its subsets is known. The input format is the usual ascii format: 1 2 3 (95).
Logistic PCA. [download]
This is a porting to python of Andrew I. Schein's matlab code
from the paper "A Generalized Linear Model for Principal Component Analysis of Binary Data"
Short Bio
I was born on April 19th 1980 in Milazzo (Sicily). I graduated in Computer
Science at the University "Ca' Foscari" of Venice, summa cum
laude on february 15th 2002. The title of my theses is "Marr vs.
Canny: two algorithms for edge detection", this theses consists in
a deep comparison between the two most important algorithm for edge detection.
At the same university I got the Master Degree in Computer Science summa
cum laude, on October 10th 2003. In the same year I spent one semester
abroad, thanks to the Erasmus exchange program, at the University of
Manchester, where I attended the course of Computer Graphics and Models
and Game Theory. The title of my theses is "Algorithms for the extraction
of frequent itemset and closed itemset".
During 2004, I've been a research associate at the Information Science and Technology Institute (I.S.T.I.), which belongs to the italian National Research Council (C.N.R.), where I worked for the High Performance Computing Lab. (H.P.C.) and collaborated with the Knowledge Discovery and Delivery Lab. (K.D.D.) in the project P3D: Privacy Preserving Pattern Discovery.
I received the Ph.D. in Computer Science on February 18th at the the "Ca’ Foscari" University of Venice under the supervision of prof. S.Orlando [web]. The title of my thesis is "High Performance Closed Frequent Itemsets Mining inspired by Emerging Computer Architectures" [web].
Since November 2007, I'm a researcher at the I.S.T.I.-C.N.R. in Pisa. This turned into a permanent position on June 2008.
